Meeting Minutes

Why the Rose?

It takes two to speak the truth
–one to speak, and another to listen.

Henry David Thoreau

Sigma Tau Delta is more than just another college club. It is a forum for members to share their love of English language and literature with like-minded peers, participate in rewarding activities, and gain recognition for their accomplishments. It is a gathering place for those who understand the importance of communication, the value of listening, and the significance of expression. It is a hub of shared interest and purpose.

As many arrows, loosed several ways,
Fly to one mark; as many ways meet in one small town;
As many fresh streams meet in one salt sea;
As many lines close in the dial's center;

So may a thousand actions, once afoot,
End in one purpose, and be all well borne
Without defeat.

William Shakespeare

Sigma Tau Delta confers distinction upon outstanding undergraduate students, graduate students, and professionals who contribute to English language and literature. The society is open, through associate membership, to anyone who shares its love for English.

Founded in 1924 at the Dakota Wesleyan University by Professor Judson Q. Owen, Sigma Tau Delta has over 600 active chapters, more than 900 faculty sponsors, and inducts approximately 7,000 members annually, making it one of the largest members of the Association of College Honor Societies.
