ESL Endorsement and TESL Minor

Certified teachers can add certification in English as a Second Language by completing the four courses listed below. Each course is offered at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. Tech students can add a minor in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) to any major by completing Engl 4023, Engl 4703, Engl 4713, Engl 4723 and two of the following: Engl 3013, Engl 3023, Engl 4733, or Fr/Ger,Span 4703. English faculty who teach TESL courses include Dr. Stanley Lombardo, Dr. Paola Gemme, Dr. Regina St. John, and Dr. Sam Worley. Tech also offers an M.A. in English with a TESL emphasis.

Engl 4703/5703	Teaching English as a Second Language. An investigation and practice in teaching different levels of English grammar, oral communication, comprehension skills, reading, and composition to foreign students.	Engl 1023, equivalent, or permission of instructor
Engl 4713/5713	ESL Assessment. An introduction to the tools, technicques, and procedures for evaluating the English proficiency and language development of ESL students.	Engl 1023, equivalent, or permission of instructor
Engl 4723/5723	Teaching People of Other Culture. An examination of cultural diversity in Arkansas and the United States, designed for prospective ESL teachers.	Engl 1023, equivalent, or permission of instructor
