What I am looking for in your seminar paper?

General requirements : Write a seminar paper of 1000 words (4-5 pages). Because the paper is short, I expect you to write efficiently. Your paper should have a clear thesis and a strong sense of unifying purpose. Make careful use of specific references to the text, incuding appropriately selected quotations.
Documentation: If you use secondary sources, document them using MLA style. You are not, however, required to use secondary sources. Quotations from the primary texts we are reading should be cited with parenthetical page numbers. (I assume that you will be using the editions ordered for the class.)
Thesis: Your thesis should address at least two of the novels we have studied and should treat the works contextually, considering economic, social, historical or ideological perspectives. The Bedford - St. Martin's Critcial Approaches site offers brief summaries of various critical approaches, including New Historical and Marxist. The summaries may suggest ways in which you can shape your essay. Send me your proposed thesis by Wednesday, June 21 for my comment and approval.
